Gilberton Residential Development and Master Plan, Gilberton
A series of low to medium-rise apartment towers which frame a highly sculptural inner ‘Park Land’
Both the State Strategic Plan and 30 Year Plan for Greater Adelaide promote the need to create a new, more compact and better-designed urban form in the face of growing social, environmental, economic and transport challenges. The 1.3-hectare site at Park Terrace presented the perfect opportunity for delivering a new housing model in line with public policy preferences.
Located between the River Torrens Linear Park and the Park Lands fringe of the CBD, the site is a gentle walk or bike ride to the city and North Adelaide. It fronts one of the six major transit corridors identified in the State Governments 30-year plan and is near to the highly desirable eastern suburbs. The development response the opportunity was a series of low to medium density urban infill properties, which frame an inner ‘parkland’.
Tectvs designed a diverse mix of apartment types and configurations spread across numerous building forms of varying heights. The new homes were set encompassing a lush, resort-style garden landscape to encourage resident interaction and communal activity.
Ground-level apartments open on to street-scape gardens, with multiple entrance-ways and gathering points encouraging pedestrian access to, from, and within the community. The designs successfully connected the site to the nearby parklands and riverbank.
