Urban design + master planning
Responsible urban design and master planning can have a lasting positive impact on an individual’s life and, indeed, the broader surrounding community.
Tectvs uses space, shape, and scale to thoughtfully organise collections of buildings and the public, including the open space between those buildings. With thoughtful integration and a good understanding of the places people share and gather, we draw on our extensive experience and expert knowledge as Architects to create a cohesive solution to urban design.
Tectvs guides clients on strategic design issues, and we design pragmatic, innovative architecture that aims to transform, re-envision, and regenerate the identity of a place or community. Great urban design and master planning create vibrant, healthy neighbourhoods, and well-planned communities and cities where people want to live.
Norwood Green Precinct (Caroma site), Norwood
Tectvs developed the master plan for what is fast becoming one of Adelaide’s premier inner-city developments. Located on the old Caroma site, facing Magill Road, the new precinct will allow its residents to live within close proximity to shops, eateries and beautiful heritage homes.
Anchorage Townhouse Development,
Port Adelaide
Tectvs was asked to provide a masterplan for the development of land in the commercial heart of Port Adelaide. The vacant land, surrounded by a main atrial road as well as three, quieter historic suburban streets. The objective was to bring new life to the area, attracting young professionals and empty-nesters, by developing a quality ‘contemporary lifestyle’ townhouse precinct.
Gilberton Residential Development and
Master Plan, Gilberton
The 1.3-hectare site (and former Channel Seven headquarters) at Park Terrace presented the perfect opportunity for delivering a new housing model in line with public policy preferences. Tectvs designed a diverse mix of apartment types and configurations spread across numerous building forms of varying heights and set around in a lush, resort-style garden landscape to encourage resident interaction and communal activity.
Halifax St. Precinct Development, Adelaide
Adelaide’s historic first ‘brownfields’ residential development involved the remediation of the City Council’s industrial works depot and construction of 240 new townhouses and apartments on the 2.2-hectare site in the heart of the city. Following the initial development stage, Tectvs’s template for the development that was so successful the remaining stages were predominantly sold off the plan.
Woodville West Neighbourhood Renewal Project, Woodville West
Tectvs was engaged with stage one of the Woodville West Neighbourhood Renewal project. Specifically, we were involved with the master planning, design, and construction of a new, higher density community of 400 townhouses and apartments. The contemporary townhouse and apartment designs were fresh, disarmingly simple and enthusiastically embraced by residents and neighbouring interests.
Riverbank Precinct, Adelaide
The Adelaide Riverbank precinct had been a point of contention for decades. After significant investment in the 1970s, the Festival Plaza and Festival Theatre remained under-utilised. The State Government proposed registration of interest to assess ideas for redeveloping the precinct. This project study details how Tectvs proposed to activate the riverbank better.
